But what is there to do?

There are an unlimited number of things you can do in Mithria, ranging from opening a shop, to starting a personal crusade againt a particular race of monsters. The ultimate goal, of course, is to gain in power and prestige within the world.

This is most easily accomplished in the standard hack-'n-slash manner, by going out and killing monsters, then looting the corpses. This is a rather macabre method of advancement, but usually very effective, depending on your chosen profession. A low-level sorcerer is fairly weak, and does not stand much of a chance against anything except Snoggs. By the same token, a mid- to high-level warrior has no magical defenses (unless he manages to acquire one of the rare magical items to be found) and will not stand much chance against Ogre shamans or enemy Sorcerers despite his much higher health rating.

However, Exile is not solely combat-oriented. Experience can also be gained occasionally through good roleplaying, and there is also the age-old question of "what's the easiest way to get rich quick?" Most players will find it difficult at first to gain crystal (crystal is the standard currency in Mithria, since metal is so rare) and experience in order to become more powerful, but there are a number of options available.

First, and probably easiest, is to make friends with other players. A low-level sorcerer has a MUCH better chance of survival if he can befriend a warrior to take care of the heavy combats for him. Of course, he may elect to help out, though there's not too much a low-level sorcerer or mentalist can do against the bigger monsters in the game. In contrast, a warrior, once he has gained a few levels of experience, may want to find a sorcerer to hang out with "just in case" he runs into something nasty that he can't handle.

Second, go on a module. Modules are fairly small (although some exceptionally long ones may take several days to complete), self-contained adventures, run by Plot members as a way to help new players along, and occasionally to pass out interesting items to higher-level players. On a module, players generally are grouped with a handful of other players of about the same level of power, both to provide the protection of a group, and to help the player become acclimated to Mithria.

Third, start a business. Find something you can do that most others can't, and sell it. Start a potion shop, sell magical items that you find or create, open a moneylending shop. There is an unlimited number of different skills in the game, so just pick one and have at it!

These aren't the only options, but certainly some of the simplest. Anything you want to do (within reason) can be assimilated into the game world. Don't be shy about making suggestions to the game staff or to Plot. Feedback is the only way we can improve!
